Navman Wireless has been named winner of the Technology Award at the 2008 Van Fleet World Honours.

The award was presented for its launch of the next generation of vehicle tracking software, OnlineAVL2, that offers companies managing fleets radical and dynamic new ways of viewing driver locations.

Navman Wireless is the UK’s largest manufacturer of tracking, messaging and navigation equipment for commercial fleet management, supplying more than 4,500
companies nationwide.

“We have invested millions of pounds and spent two years developing OnlineAVL2 to meet the requirements of today’s fleet industry. We’re delighted to have been recognised for bringing this cutting edge technology to the marketplace,” said Tony Neill, Vice President Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Judges praised OnlineAVL2 for “contributing that extra something to the industry”.

“There is no shortage of tracking and tracing software, but the number of service providers who tailor products for commercial vehicle use is relatively small,” said John Kendall, Van Fleet World’s editor.

“Navman Wireless is one that does. Its OnlineAVL2 system can be integrated with selected routing and scheduling software to help large fleets in particular manage multiple vehicle movements.

“The company has also integrated the system with on-board weighing specialists Red Forge, enabling fleets to monitor axle weights. This can help to prevent axle overloading on multi-drop deliveries and alert driver and fleet manager to any overload issues.

“Using Microsoft mapping, satellite imagery is integrated with street mapping to give more information on locations or help driver’s pinpoint locations that are difficult to find. The system also offers other functions such as satellite navigation and on-line messaging.”

The award was presented to Navman Wireless at a ceremony on Tuesday May 14 at London’s RAC Club, attended by service companies and manufacturers.
