Since installing vehicle tracking from Navman Wireless – manufacturers of the ATEX-approved Qube device - business efficiency has never been so slick for Bryce Oils.

The well established family company is an independent distributer of oils, fuels and lubricants which operates within a 50 mile radius of Blackridge, Scotland - approximately halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The company invested in vehicle tracking to improve the visibility and logistical efficiency of its small fleet of specialised tankers which transport a mix of mainly red diesel and domestic heating oil. However, as Managing Director Graeme Bryce explains, these weren’t the only benefits of the technology.

Quickly up and running

“For us, one of the crucial things that a tracking system needed to have was ease of use,” says Graeme.

“When we saw the Navman Wireless system it was immediately clear that this wasn’t something we had to worry about - it was all extremely straightforward.”

“Within minutes of having the system installed we had complete visibility of all our vehicles on the system’s OnlineAVL2 tracking software.”

Speed of response

Graeme knew that being able to monitor the location of his fleet and route them to their next destination, at the touch of a button, would be an invaluable tool in helping to uphold his company’s revered standard of service.

It wasn’t long until Graeme was proven right and now, Bryce Oil’s promise of a 24-hour order turnaround time has never been so assured.

“Our vehicles are out for most of the day making multiple deliveries all over the region,” explains Graeme.

“With the tracking system we can now ensure that the right vehicles are going to the right jobs and we don’t have them covering unnecessary miles.

“It also means that when we get an emergency job, we can instantly find the closest vehicle with the right product, re-route the driver and then provide the customer with a highly accurate arrival time.

Buying time

Prior to installing tracking, Bryce Oil’s had to prepare and load their tankers before deliveries could commence in the morning. Now though, the company has found that because they are able to get drivers to jobs more efficiently, it often has enough time to do this before the end of the day.

A vital asset

There was a time when vehicle tracking was considered an expensive luxury but continued industry growth has seen the technology become common place in small and large business alike.

“The drivers have embraced the technology because they appreciate how it’s making day-to-day activities much easier to manage,” says Graeme.

“As a consequence, the system has become an integral part of our operation and one which is used, without fail, every single day.

“So integral, in fact, that the only thing we switch on before OnlineAVL2 is the kettle!”
