Last week it was announced the government is to invest £9.5m in a bid to encourage fleet operators to purchase and manage low carbon medium and heavy goods vehicles.
The Low Carbon Truck Demonstration Trial is looking for SMEs and multinational operators to participate; no matter the fleet size each candidate will receive a maximum grant of £750k. The aim of the “green truck fund” is to help fleet operators launch and run their fleets with alternative dual fuel heavy goods vehicles, electric and hybrid commercial vehicles.
Whilst we at Navman Wireless support this scheme and believes the funding is a great platform for operators to acquire green vehicles, lower their carbon footprint and their cost base, it’s equally important to recognise fleet owners who have heavily invested in technology to help reduce the negative impact their fleet has on the environment.
For this reason we believe that similar schemes should be implemented for businesses that actively seek out and invest in vehicle management technology designed to moderate their fleet’s emissions into the atmosphere.
Please voice your opinion below and vote in our poll – should a rewards scheme be in place for businesses who invest in vehicle management technology? Have you say below!

We have invested in vehicle tracking technology and use this to reduce our emmissions and also cut down on un necessary travel, why is iy only the large organisations who are being given assistance when there are thousands of SME’s like us who contribute millions to the economy every fiscal year!!!!!!!!
Hopefully we can keep an eye on the condition and bad habits of our drivers then try to educate them to the best driving conditions for cutting down on emisions
We have invested in VMS and have a 6 year replacement programme and go for latest euro spec engines but until HMG look at making it possible for ALL SME’s to be able to look at dual fuel and electric / hybrid tech i.e. we are based completely in rural area of the country and do not have access so HMG want it all but do not make it possible for all so we are penalised.
so YES we should be rewarded for any other investments we have made to control and manage our carbon footprint within the constraints we have.
We have used this technology for several years now and it has helped us to save on fuel year on year being able to plan effective routes and aid us to diagnose any potential problems with fuel economy.
