Huge savings for J&B Electrical
An electrical and data networking contractor has revealed savings well in excess of £25,000 a year after introducing vehicle tracking to its fleet of seven vehicles.
J&B Electrical Contractors invested in technology from Navman Wireless, the UK’s largest provider of vehicle tracking*, to reduce costs and increase fleet efficiency.
Enabling businesses to monitor, in real time, the exact position and activities of their mobile workforce, the fleet management benefits of vehicle tracking are well documented. The Coventry-based commercial and industrial cabling provider is testament to this after being overwhelmed by the improvements it has made to its operations.
“The system incorporates a timesheet reporting function, which has allowed us to minimise inaccurate overtime claims,” said Andrew Johnson, Operations Director, J&B Electrical Contractors.
“Consequently, after installing the system we immediately started saving £500 per week and within the first month of use, it had paid for itself.”
The company, established over 22 years ago, has also found that the technology has helped it attract new business and strengthen existing relationships.
“There are always occasions where clients will query the number of hours we bill them for, but with the visibility that vehicle tracking provides, we can prove beyond doubt exactly where our engineers were, or are, at any one time,” explained Andrew.
“For the customer, this means we are able to tell them, on demand, exactly when a specific engineer will arrive on site - which is a real benefit in this industry.
“As a consequence, the Navman Wireless system has proved an invaluable sales tool and has significantly improved our service.”
With many high-profile clients nationwide, J&B Electrical Contractors have also made big fuel savings thanks to the technology’s enhanced routing features.
“With engineers regularly in unfamiliar surroundings, having the ability to locate a particular destination and direct the closest engineer directly to it has greatly improved response times and considerably reduced dead-mileage – saving us a lot of time and fuel,” said Andrew.
The wealth of data that the vehicle tracking system imparts has also led to the elimination of unauthorised vehicle use.
“We knew vehicles were being used over the weekend without permission but until we installed tracking we didn’t know to what extent,” concluded Andrew.
“This kind of activity was costing the company huge amounts in lost fuel but since installing vehicle tracking, unauthorised usage is a thing of the past.”
